“The more people help others, the more people help others.” Conversely, “hurt people hurt people.” The near acronyms TEMPO and HUP represent these axioms. From them it follows that we can improve our lives by hurting the fewest and helping the most people. The position we take on helping others informs our ethics and our politics. I therefore devote this website to that question and its ramifications. For a theoretical explanation, please read the post Introducing TEMPO and HUP. The story “Two Rescues” is a narrative illustration of the principle.
“Since the prevailing opinion on any subject is rarely or never the whole truth, it is only by the collision of adverse opinions that the remainder of the truth has any chance of being supplied.” - John Stuart Mill, On Liberty
